HELLO, WORLD!

My name is Aaron Hernandez. I'd like to welcome you to the Daily Aaron blog, where I share my passion for retro video game development (fueled by lots of coffee and late-night coding to retro tunes).

I have always been fascinated with retro video games and am on a mission to bring retro gaming back to its roots – even better than before! The original video games of the ‘80s and ‘90s were so creative and overcame the limitations of technology to entertain us. Today, some people might look at these games as remedial, but I see them as an opportunity to create a whole new era of modern “retro” games that bring us back to the good old days and invoke feelings of nostalgia.

That’s why I started on my journey to learn everything I can about retro game consoles such as the Atari 2600, Nintendo Entertainment System, DOS, and more using Assembly and C. I am currently dissecting old game consoles and reading vintage coding guides so I can ultimately begin programming fun retro-style games and potentially make my own video game console someday.

I invite you to join me on my journey to bring retro gaming back and follow my blog. I plan to share what I learn along the way and hope to actively engage with fellow old school game enthusiasts and developers. My goal is to start a community where we can all share our ideas and enthusiasm for developing new retro-style games that combine past technology with the latest advances to inspire a whole new genre of modern-retro gaming. Let’s do this together!

A little more about me…

I currently work as a software developer at a major financial services firm for my day job. I graduated with a degree in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin, Madison a semester early in December, 2020. I also have two cats that frequently program with me into the wee hours of the morning.
